Most Memorable Biker Tale Let's see, I could talk about the trip to the Round Up in Wisconsin, or the ride to North Carolina - the early morning fog on I-85. My first ride over the Key Bridge on a very, very windy afternoon, however, I think I will go with the parking lot incident because it IS my most memorable. When I first started to ride, I was practicing cornering to the right and became too confident. After going around and around about 5 or 6 times, each time I went a little faster. I was like "this is so much fun", "I got this". Well the last trip around, I hit that corner fast. However, I still could have made it I think. See, I wanted to make her lean, I was getting off on the leaning. Well, for some reason, after just getting into the turn, I looked at the sidewalk to my left and not through my turn. Yes, you know what happened next. MidNiteRambler (my Yamaha V-Star 1100) sat straight up and headed straight for the sidewalk. In a split second we were somewhat air born then she leaned to the left and laid down, she stopped about two or 3 feet from the building in front of us in the grass. I let go at some point and rolled hard to the right away from her but not before my left knee banged the sidewalk. I laid there with my eyes closed because I didn't wanna see what happened to MidNight. You see, I just got her a few days before. When my people came running, I could hear" Oh My Gawd! I hope she is alright," etc etc. When they got to me, I opened my eyes and looked at MidNight and wailed "my bike!, my bike!". They were like "don't worry about the bike, what about you"? They picked her up and checked her out to see if she was ride able and then said "Okay get back on and ride around the corner again". Said "if you don't do it now, you won't do it at all". So, with my knee throbbing pain, I got back on my MidNite and went around the corner again. I was worried about fixing the left runner light and tail light and windshield. The runner light was cockeyed, the tail light was hanging from the wires. So we taped it up but it kept drooping. Instead of calling her MidNite, a better name would have been 'DroopyTail'. The windshield lost some pieces at the bottom. I was told not to fix anything yet. But I did feel a little uncomfortable riding around with droopy tail and cockeye. I picked up the pieces of the windshield and carried a small piece in my vest pocket for about a year to remind me to be focused. I still have the pieces of the windshield but I don't carry them anymore and MidNite is no longer droopy tailed or cockeyed. However, she does still carry a small scratch on the front fender. So whenever anyone asks me what that scratch came from, I tell them "My Initiation"
