The next morning I woke up and started to reminisce on this experience called "College Life"
Fall 2002 I stepped fresh on the scene to AGGIELAND. I had my schedule, I just paid $500 for ALL of my books, I had a binder for each of my classes. I was ready. Who knew that the lessons I would learn would not be the kind from textbooks.
My first lesson at NC A&T, DON'T DRESS UP FOR BREAKFAST. lol. Wake up, go to the café, come back to the dorm and then get dressed. That first Saturday morning on campus is a sure bona- fide way to point out all of the freshmen.
Dorm Life always seemed the same for everyone. In each dorm, the rooms seemed small enough that you could reach out and touch your roommate when you slept. You always had a spades tournament going on in the lounge or somebody braiding hair. There was always someone selling some candy or Ramen Noodles. You could easily point out the sheltered kids. They were the wildest in school, and usually dropped out by the Spring. Once in a while two roommates would break out in a huge fight. Classes freshmen year were easy, I had a 4.0 after my freshman year. I had a 4.0, an internship at IBM and a credit card.
Internships and credit cards have to be the route of all evil to the college student. That little piece of plastic develops in your conscience consistently talking to you, "Go ahead and charge it". "You can pay it back later". Internships just the same had me thinking, "Why do I have to go to college to do this work". The pay was great and the work was easy.
My years spent as an upperclassman were the most developmental. I had my own car, I had my own money, I lived off campus and I had someone who was 21 to go to the liquor store for me :-D As a upperclassman I never rose out of bed until noon. By then I could tell which classes I needed to go to? or which days I needed to show up for a class. It is crazy how you change from freshman year to senior year.
My AGGIELAND experience was my rite of passage. It was in college that I had my first hangover, failed my first test, crossed the burning sands into DELTALAND, Did I say had my first hangover???? LOL
It was at A&T that I learned not WHAT TO THINK? BUT HOW TO THINK. Now, I'm out in the so called real world trying to apply all of the things that college life has taught me.
LookOwt The Phoenix is Rising
Much Luv to my Fam and Biker Fam, my club R.U.M. Ryders MC; Uncle Keith aka LoKei, Uncle Yoda, and Tinka (who harrassed me for my chicken wings on the way to NYC) of Black Tigers MC who had my back, and nicknamed me Eat Um's because I was always eating.
Oh! last but not least; I did appreciate all the noodles, vitamins, care packages, plane tickets and CASH that came my way.
